Modus Architects are thrilled to share the successful completion of the new church and community centre for The Salvation Army Isle of Man Corps. This project represents not just an architectural accomplishment but the culmination of a community’s hope and perseverance.
The Corps’s church and community mission in the Isle of Man was in jeopardy before they approached Modus Architects, as their previous attempts to procure a new home had ended in failure. We our privileged to have been entrusted with getting this job done for them and we are delighted with the results.
The journey began with the procurement of the former British Red Cross headquarters, a nondescript two-story office building awaiting transformation. Situated within the Isle of Man Business Park, the site presented itself as a blank canvas with potential.
As design architect, lead consultant and contract administrator, we have been minutely involved in this project from inception to completion. The synergy, collaboration and creativity exhibited by the project team have resulted in an exceptional project, achieved in the face of budget constraints, supply chain disruptions and a challenging Planning approval process.
Modus Architects was tasked with transforming the site into a warm, welcoming, and sustainable community building in the office park. The functional programme included a multifunctional community hall, a community lounge, commercial kitchen, meeting rooms, administration offices, and counselling facilities for the Corps’s Debt Advice Centre.
In line with our commitment to sustainability, the centre features natural ventilation, radiant floor heating powered by an air source heat pump, and a solar photovoltaic system to ensure operational efficiency and environmental responsibility.
The completion of The Salvation Army Isle of Man Corps’ new church and community centre is a testament to the power of design leadership and collaborative spirit. This new facility stands as a beacon of hope and service, ready to welcome and uplift the Isle of Man community for years to come.
